OUR KITCHEN

A little Guangdong,
wherever home is.

Canto Hearth is an independent guide to Cantonese home cooking, with roots in Huizhou, Guangdong.

We write for cooks who are curious about Cantonese food but may be shopping in a different country, using a different stove, or meeting fermented black beans for the first time. The useful details belong in the recipe, not behind a paywall.

What you can expect

Clear quantities, a reason for each important step, and honest explanations of what a substitution changes. Our kitchen tools help with the arithmetic; they do not replace checking the food in your pan.

How we make our guides

We use publicly accessible Chinese-language cooking references to research dishes and techniques, then write our guides independently in English. Each recipe links to the references we used. Editorial adjustments are reviewed separately, rather than described as the original author’s formula.

Recipes that have not been cooked and checked by our own team are labelled “not yet kitchen-tested by us.” We do not invent personal cooking stories, reviews, ratings, or credentials.

About the photographs

Some photographs illustrate the dish rather than the exact recipe. Those are clearly labelled as reference photographs, with creator and licence details. See the image credits.

Free means the whole recipe

Ingredients, steps and troubleshooting are free to read. There is no paid final step. Voluntary support may be added later; payments are not currently enabled.

A note on travel

We may explore Guangdong’s food beyond the home kitchen in the future. We are not taking travel bookings or payments here.
